Let’s Talk Off The Grid: A FAM Favorite Web3 Game

We are getting fired up over the early pre-release versions of gameplay into "Off The Grid" (OTG), a highly anticipated Web3 game from Gunzilla Games. This game promises to revolutionize the gaming landscape with its unique blend of storytelling, immersive gameplay, and blockchain integration. The creative team behind OTG's world includes Chief Visionary Officer Neill Blomkamp, known for directing "District 9"; Script Writer Richard Morgan, the author of "Altered Carbon"; and Exec. Narrative Director Olivier Henriot, who has worked on popular titles like "Assassin’s Creed" and "Far Cry." OTG is set to launch in 2024 and is already generating significant buzz among gamers and blockchain enthusiasts alike.

Spotlight FAM Community Member: ExoticMTG

ExoticMTG's entry into the world of Web3 and crypto gaming began with a pivotal phone call from billionfootball introducing him to the game BigTime. Despite initial challenges, such as mishandling an Ethereum transaction, Exotic's interest was piqued by the potential utility of crypto and the innovative aspects of BigTime like renting virtual spaces. His investment in a medium legendary space marked his first significant step into this new frontier. "Call it blind faith, call it just great friendship, but I just said, okay, what's the link? What do I got to do?" he recalled.

Throughout his journey, ExoticMTG was particularly drawn to the nostalgic elements and community aspects of games like BigTime. With a background in MMOs dating back to games like Dark Ages of Camelot and World of Warcraft, he appreciated the social and immersive experiences these games offered. BigTime resonated with him due to its unique mechanics and potential for deep player engagement, aligning perfectly with his preference for games that foster rich, collaborative environments.

To build his knowledge and navigate the complexities of Web3 gaming, ExoticMTG relied heavily on the BigTime community and influential figures within the space. Platforms like Discord became invaluable for learning and sharing information. He highlighted the contributions of community members like 3pac and Mrs369, noting their insights were crucial in helping him understand the nuances of the industry. "FAM is such a great place because they've got the most influential, most knowledgeable, the best players in the game," he emphasized.

ExoticMTG's involvement in Web3 saw significant milestones including his role on the marketing team for BigTime. This position not only expanded his understanding of the game but also taught him important lessons about the industry, such as targeting the right streamers for promotion. He learned that big streamers often prioritize monetary gain over genuine interest, which shaped his approach to community building and marketing strategies. "I learned that very big streamers are not the greatest targets to try convincing to promote a game or to retain their followings or people into a pre-alpha, pre-beta game," he observed.

Community engagement has been a cornerstone of ExoticMTG's involvement in Web3. Through streaming, managing Discord channels, and participating in guild activities, he has fostered a supportive and active community. His efforts to onboard new players, share knowledge, and promote engagement have been instrumental in building a vibrant ecosystem around the games he supports. "It's about the people. The game, if the game's good, and you've got a good player base, and you get along together, that's amazing to me," he shared.

A significant milestone that impacted ExoticMTG was BigTime's economy launch in October 2023. This event validated his investment and patience, confirming the potential of the game and its successful implementation of NFTs and in-game utility. "It was life-changing to have the affirmation of research and patience come to a beautiful point to experience finally," he remarked. This experience solidified his confidence in Web3 gaming and reinforced his commitment to the space.

Beyond gaming, ExoticMTG maintains a well-rounded lifestyle through a variety of interests and hobbies. He enjoys umpiring baseball games, camping, and engaging in outdoor activities like gardening and landscaping. Coaching sports and participating in community activities are also important aspects of his life. "I fell in love with umpiring baseball... there's not been a better feeling for me lately outside of my stream," he said. Additionally, his involvement in family activities and community service provides a fulfilling balance to his tech-centric pursuits. "Getting outside, coaching my kids in sports, and staying active in the community have been incredibly rewarding," he added.
