Let’s Talk World Shards: Preparing For Success

This month, World Shards will begin rolling out its highly anticipated Economy Launch Phases, bringing major changes to the game’s crafting and trading systems. The first phase will start with a wipe, resetting all crafted NFTs to level 1, tier 0, providing a fresh start for all players. Alongside this reset, Phase 1 will introduce exciting liveops events, including leaderboards, token drop functionality tests, and a trial coin run event, giving players an early taste of the new economy. This phase is crucial for players looking to familiarize themselves with the new mechanics and start preparing for the next steps.

Following a two-week period, Phase 2 will introduce several important changes, including increases to rarity and luck, as well as crafting and charging speed-ups. Additionally, players will start receiving proxy tokens, which will eventually convert to $MWKN (1 proxy token = 1 $MWKN), allowing players to build up token reserves before the full economy goes live. This phase presents a valuable opportunity for early adopters to gain a head start on accumulating resources and tokens in preparation for the fully functional economy.

The final stage of the economy launch will bring the system fully online with adventure board airdrops and the listing of $MWKN on exchanges, providing more avenues for players to earn and trade. From an economic standpoint, the most effective strategy for players is to stock up on islands, securing both a Founder’s Island and Additional Islands. These islands will serve as the foundation for crafting and generating $MWKN tokens. It’s suggested that players have at least one common artifact for each workshop type (armor, weapons, tools, etc.) to utilize when resources become available, setting up for long-term crafting success.

To maximize your progress during the early phases, it’s also important to learn how to progress efficiently through the islands and prepare for the economy’s second stage. Each island tier comes with its own rune costs and challenges, and understanding where certain resources drop—and in what quantities—will help you plan ahead. Maintaining a solid inventory of crafting materials and equipment ensures that you’re always ready for larger, more resource-intensive islands. This preparation is key to continuing progress without unnecessary delays, whether you're crafting or repairing items.

Inventory management is another critical factor to consider. While storage chests can be crafted and organized on the Default Island, Founder’s Islands, and Additional Islands, having a well-organized system will save you time and allow for quick access to essential materials. Keep an eye on item durability and ensure that you have backup gear stored and ready to go, so you can handle tougher islands without interruption. By maintaining efficient storage, you’ll be able to quickly craft what’s needed to continue progressing through the islands and maximize the rewards from the economy launch.

Further, players looking to maximize efficiency should consider grinding low-tier islands early on to build up resources and gear. This will allow you to save up enough materials to take on higher-tier islands without being underprepared. Additionally, keeping your inventory clear when venturing to islands will maximize the space for gathering resources, ensuring you leave nothing valuable behind. This strategy allows you to gather efficiently and make the most of each run, giving you a head start as the economy launch progresses.

Spotlight FAM Community Member: Valkyria

Valkyria’s introduction to Web3 gaming began with small, play-to-earn (P2E) games on her phone. Her journey truly took off when she stumbled upon Warsaken in December 2023, a discovery that rapidly expanded her involvement in the Web3 space. "A person called Maddie27 on Discord helped me a lot at the start," she recalls, giving credit to the early support that guided her through her initial steps. Another key figure, CustomeTV, helped connect her to multiple games, further propelling her into the Web3 gaming world. Valkyria’s early experiences highlight the importance of community support in navigating this new digital frontier.

What initially attracted Valkyria to Web3 gaming was the opportunity to blend enjoyment with the possibility of earning through gameplay. "I saw the opportunity to earn on the games I already liked," she shares. She’s particularly drawn to games where success requires effort rather than money, preferring to work for rewards rather than simply buying her way to the top. This ethos has kept her deeply engaged, as it allows her to feel a sense of achievement and fairness in the games she plays. Valkyria appreciates how the Web3 space allows players to feel more connected to the community while offering financial opportunities through gameplay.

Valkyria’s learning journey in Web3 was supported by various communities, particularly on Discord. "Psycho Dino took me in as an early player," she says, describing how these early connections helped her find her footing. Maddie27 and CustomeTV were pivotal figures in her journey, guiding her through different Web3 games and teaching her the nuances of the space. Recently, communities like WorldShards and OL (Online Legends) have been instrumental in helping her expand her knowledge and involvement. Valkyria acknowledges that the support from these communities has been crucial in helping her navigate the complexities of Web3 gaming as a newcomer.

A major turning point in Valkyria’s Web3 journey came when she was selected as an ambassador for a project, a role that pushed her to take her streaming career more seriously. "Being an ambassador was a huge step in my journey," she explains. The responsibility that came with this role motivated her to improve her streaming setup, focusing more on layouts and user interfaces to enhance the quality of her content. This shift in focus has helped her elevate her presence in the Web3 gaming space, making her streams more professional and engaging for her growing audience. The ambassador role has been a defining moment, helping her evolve both as a streamer and a community member.

Community engagement plays a significant role in Valkyria’s Web3 gaming experience. She actively participates on Twitch and Discord, where she connects with fellow players and streamers. "Very much on Twitch and Discord," she says, emphasizing the importance of these platforms in building her presence and staying connected with the broader community. Her involvement in these spaces has allowed her to gain valuable insights into Web3 gaming while fostering meaningful relationships with other players. Valkyria’s ability to engage with the community has helped her create a supportive environment around her streams, where interaction and connection are key elements.

One of the standout moments in Valkyria’s Web3 journey is her involvement in several projects that have had a lasting impact on her. Warsaken, WorldShards, and Off The Grid have been particularly significant for her, shaping the direction of her streams and content. "My streams reflect very much of what I do and like," she explains, pointing out that her passion for these games is central to the content she creates. These projects have helped her stay engaged and motivated in the Web3 space, allowing her to explore new opportunities and continue growing as both a gamer and a streamer.

Balancing Web3 gaming with her personal life has been a challenge for Valkyria, who candidly admits, "I don’t balance it." As a mother of an autistic son with ADHD, and while struggling with PTSD and personal illness, gaming has become a crucial outlet for her. "Right now, I use Web3 and gaming to keep my mind off real life," she explains, noting how these activities help her cope with difficult circumstances. Despite these challenges, Valkyria has a rich history of hobbies, including climbing, fishing, and woodworking, though her current focus is primarily on using gaming as a way to stay grounded and maintain mental health. Her story is one of resilience and finding solace in the gaming community during tough times.
